In 2001 we adopted a Saint Bernard from the local animal shelter. He was
emaciated, tick and flea infested, had sores on his legs and neck where a chain
had been wrapped around him. We brought him home and spent 3 hours in our
garage, clipping and trimming his coat. Gently talking to him (he was
terrified) as we pulled ticks from his ears and belly. When we finished we
bathed him for almost an hour. That night he slept on the floor beside our bed.
From that day on, he went where ever we went. We named him Herman after Herman
Muenster because he was SO big. After getting him healthy and happy - about 8
months had passed, we lost him because of his prior treatment and lack of
proper nutrition - he couldn't be saved.
After mourning the loss of Herman we began the quest to find another Saint
bernard. They're such gentle giants that we knew that we had to have another.
We found the National Saint Bernard Rescue Foundation and tried to adopt a
Saint from Arizona. We found out that it was going to take 3 weeks to get a
home visit handled because someone would have to come from out of state. It was
at that moment that we decided that instead of "helping" one Saint Bernard - we
could help more by becoming a state coordinators. We are committing our life,
money, hearts and home to saving as many Saint Bernard's as we can.

We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our
boarding facilities because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have
enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog
can sleep in proper comfort, please click here. |
